Gaiking - Legend Of Daiku Maryu: The Story Introduction

Introduction

A black flame. A black flame on the horizon line, above the sea. This is the tie between past and present. 5 years ago, this mysterious phenomenon announced the return of Darius and its Four Generals to the world, when they came to invade the Earth unleashing their robot monsters against mankind. First witnesses of this returning nightmare were young Daiya Tsuwabuki and his father, which were in open sea on their boat: Darius’ war machines emerged from underwater and overwhelmed everything was on their way, including Daiya’s and his parent’s lives, reaching mainland to begin their mission of devastation. Back then, a gigantic dragon-shaped spaceship came on them and stopped their destruction, saving Daiya from the fury of those waves among which his father disappeared. Today, Daiya is a junior high school student who lives with his mother and loves the sea as always, often enjoying it with his great friend Naoto Hayami. Daiya perfectly remembers his dramatic experience and, beyond his memories, he keeps a tangible proof of what happened that day: a ring, maybe a talisman, that he received from someone, from a young girl who disembarked from that ship to meet him when Daiya was finally safe ashore. That ring has an inner life, but Daiya discovers it only when that black flame appears again on the horizon line, above the sea, to announce a new, imminent battle against Darius’ monsters. But this time will be different: Daiya knows that he must fight this enemy to know the truth about his father’s fate, and though his strength and courage might not be enough to face Darius’ menace, the great dragon spaceship returns to protect him just like it did 5 years ago. The Space Dragon, commanded by Capt. Garis, welcomes Daiya onboard and the boy becomes the new pilot of the Gaiking, the majestic robot that has to fight against Earth’s enemy 30 years after Sanshiro’s triumph on Mount Fuji. Together with Lulu, the mysterious young girl he knew on a stormy beach, and her precious help, Daiya will come to maturity day after day confronting himself with the enemy and with his fellows, getting ready for that truth he’s so perseveringly looking for…
